It was 5pm on a forzen Sunday evening in NYC at the Bowery Hotel. Outside a wet wintery mix of precipitation and wind made the city frigged and harsh. Inside Sonic Attunement (PjOE, Malia Kulp & Jessica Caplan) and Ally Bogard of The Path provided a warm and loving container to thaw out and dive deep into the self with a mixture of sacred sound and guided meditation. The sound journey meditation consisted of deep sub waves, binaural beats, tuning forks, singing bowls, vocals and analog synth cascades with the spoken word leading the group deep into the moment. At the end of the guided meditation the Sonic Attunement crew created an impromptu flow of improvised music that built up the energy just rite for Atish to take get the dance floor moving. CYMATIK had an epic opening at the IMAGINE Gallery in NYC on February 1st 2014. The project met eager and enthusiastic attendees from all corners of interest: Sound healers, music enthusiasts, scientists, shamans and curious revelers lined up for over 3 hours to interact and play with Frequency Lab, which is the first interactive offering of CYMATIK.
For this year’s PEX Summer Festival PjOE was invited to lead a special sound meditation for the last evening of the festivities. it was the perfect opportunity to share The Sonic Atunement Sound Journey Meditation experience. Oliver Halsman Rosenberg joined in with his array of singing bowls and other sonic tools into the fold with PjOE’s specialized tuning forks, bells and electronics (Ableton Live and analog synths). Together the pair held a powerful sound space for the participants to go deep into meditation. Post event we interviewed some of the participants about their experience, the feedback was powerful. Enjoy the live recording of the experience, feel free to download and share.
About The Performance
The set up was a blended weaving of analog and digital improvisation. Collectively the project implemented 14 singing bowls, 3 sets of tuning forks, bells, chimes, jaw harp, Access TI Polar keyboard, Ableton Live, Omnisphere, iPad touch screen controllers, Bossa Bass module, AKAI MPC40, Apollo UAD Quad Core, a MacBook Pro, PjOE & Oliver’s vocal stylings and some other odds and ends.
All of the tonal instruments (synthesizers, software plugins, etc.) are tuned to 432hz, which is thought to be more in tune with cosmic resonance.
Download and enjoy, any time you want to go deep, relax or travel through sound.
Big thanks to the PEX folks for providing us an amazing space to explore…
STELLA is an interactive sculpture that tells a tale of a memory captured from a time before. The memory of a woman met along a journey in a far off place at a far off time. As a participant interacts with each of the drawers they discover long forgotten items and a unique audio journey that is triggered upon opening. Each drawer delivers a different layer of the story along with different artifacts leaving behind traces of who Stella was… Open each draw one at a time or mix the matrix of memories and soundscapes.
Stella comes together through the creative genius of:
